While working at Baker & McKenzie, he landed a new client called Nabor Industries. Nabor Industries is the largest driller for oil and natural gas in the world. His work for this company was so impressive that the executives at Nabor Industries decided to lure him away from his career in the law and instead become one of their top business executives. They were successful in this effort and so Petrello left New York behind and moved to Houston, Texas.
As of 2016, Tony Petrello was paid a total compensation package of $15,202,689. His base pay was $1,575,000 with bonuses and other compensation totaling another $1,492,982. Additionally, he was awarded stock worth a total of $10,808,769. This makes him one of the most highly paid CEOs around.
With his high pay, Tony Petrello has become a philanthropist. Not long ago, for example, he donated $7 million to the Texas Children’s Hospital. He also has a seat on their board of trustees.
