A lot of people are afraid when they see a challenge put in front of them. Oftentimes, they are scared, intimidated, or just don’t want the pressure of taking on that particular job. They would rather leave it to someone else and let them handle it. It is not their problem, so why should they worry about it and deal with it? However, you have not met Ken Goodrich. He has never met a challenge he didn’t like or a challenge that he wasn’t excited about and embraced to the fullest. While others might shy away from it, he runs right into it and always conquers it.
Perhaps his greatest feat was purchasing Goettl Air Conditioning in 2012. I’m talking about a company that was not doing so hot. They had poor customer service, people coming after them, and employees that just didn’t care. As the old adage goes, that is recipe for disaster. However, Ken Goodrich knew the company could be saved and he knew if he assembled the right team, taught them the right way to do business, and set his mind, heart, body, and soul into it, it could turn around. Little did he know, 18 months later, they would be making $20 million. Now, that doesn’t happen by accident and that isn’t something you just fall into by mistake.
It starts off by just doing it. That can sometimes be the hardest challenge. People see something that is in bad shape, and they tend to run away from it, scared, and unsure of how to handle it. Instead of trying to conquer it, they don’t even know where to begin. You have to start somewhere and Ken Goodrich knew that once he got it off the ground, it was only a matter of time before it was up and running and profits would be in the positive as opposed to the negative.
As the old adage goes, you have to spend money to make money. That was the most certainly the case with Goettl Air Conditioning. Mr. Goodrich went out of his way to spend money on old jobs done by the previous employees of the company and get them done right. If you had a customer at one point, you can have them as a customer again. You just have to regain their faith in you. Once that faith is restored, they will be calling you again in the future.
