Securus Technologies is an American company. It is based in Dallas, Texas. It was originally founded in 1986. It had offices in Texas, Atlanta, Carrollton, and Allen. Securus technologies is a prison technology company. It has over a thousand employees and has business contracts with about 2600 correctional facilities all over the United States. Its operations are not limited to the United States, they have contracts with correctional facilities outside of the United States. It has contracts with approximately 2200 correctional facilities in Canada. In 2016, Securus Technologies invested about $600 million for the purpose of coming up with new technologies, acquisitions, and patents covering the next three years of operations.
Securus Technologies was established following the merger of two leading technologies companies in 2004. These companies were T-Netix and Evercom. One area where the company has really worked on is creating solutions to eliminate cases of contraband mobile phones into correctional facilities. The managed Access Solutions is a technology that has been approved by 5 departments of correctional facilities. This technology will make sure no phones penetrate the security checks around correctional facilities. In 2016, Securus technologies partnered with another technological company called Harris Corporation to come up with the “Cell Defender” technology. Apart from preventing phones from penetrating into correctional facilities, Securus Technologies has also come up with a wireless Containment Solution that prevents mobile phones from access mobile networks.
Correctional facilities have had success employing these technologies. They have been able to intercept contraband items as well as information on inmates. Users of this technology testify that they have been able to use it to intercept calls that are have seen agents of contraband goods arrested.
